It is inevitable for people to have an emotional response to changes, no matter whether the changes are big or small. Understanding how people react to changes can help managers communicate the right messages and support those affected.
The Kubler-Ross Change Curve shows how people move through stages when faced with significant changes.
People move through the curve at their own pace, and everyone does that differently. As a manager, you must identify which stage individuals are at and employ different communication strategies to smooth the transition.
Be aware that keeping people at any early stages for a prolonged period harms the individual affected and the change programme. If that happens, you must take action to move people with clear communication, transparency and consistency.
